Early bird or night owl?
One hundred per cent night owl.
One routine you swear by?
I’m actually very bad at routine but I try to hold on to my fitness classes during the week as best I can. To make sure I carve out time for myself and my wellbeing, amid crazy schedules!
Can’t travel without…?
Headphones to listen to music, watch the odd anime episode or film while out and about, or on long journeys.
Who or what has influenced you most in your career?
There’s no singular person I could credit. It’s the multitude of brilliant artists I’ve met along the way that continue to shine a light on what’s possible. The resilience, beauty and fierce joy that comes from fellow artists who centre activism in their work will always be my guiding light. I guess what influences me most is really an ethos – to constantly challenge and connect with communities, cultures and histories through music.
Favourite city to perform in and why?
I love travelling but I don’t think I could name a favourite city; many places hold special meaning for different reasons. I’m currently keen to get back to Hamburg and Marseilles though. I love the energy of port cities and flying visits to both places last year has whetted my appetite. I particularly want to check out what’s happening at Kampnagel in Hamburg this year. Their programme is always so impressively eclectic – it’s a bit of an urban creative oasis!
Guilty pleasure/indulgence?
At risk of sounding contrary or hedonistic here but I don’t tend to feel guilty about the things I enjoy. Be positive – passions and fun are as important as anything else in life.
