The Hong Kong Ballet’s new season features Septime Webre’s Carmina Burana, The Nutcracker, the world premiere of Coco Chanel: the Life of a Fashion Icon and season finale, La Bayadère.
Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) Artistic Director and composer Septime Webre says: “We all draw inspiration, courage and strength from narratives that elevate and illuminate our lives. We hope that this season, our performances will take you on an extraordinary journey, immersing you in the exhilarating, transcendent experience of ballet. We look forward to welcoming you to the theatre, where ideas and emotions will explode from the stage and pirouette into your heart”.
This autumn, HKB and the Hong Kong Philharmonic will present the world premiere of The Last Song by HKB’s Choreographer-in-Residence Hu Song Wei Ricky and Webre’s Carmina Burana. During the Christmas holiday season, Webre’s much-anticipated The Nutcracker will return to bring festive cheer in a celebration of Hong Kong in the early 20th century. Acclaimed Belgian-Colombian choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s original ballet Coco Chanel: the Life of a Fashion Icon was created especially for HKB, and celebrates the complex life of the fashion designer with lavish staging by the celebrated Vladimir Malakhov.
Kicking off 2023, HKB will embark on a US tour with Romeo + Juliet performances in New York and cities down the eastern seaboard. The company will also host the renowned American Ballet Theatre Studio Company at WKCD Art Park during Ballet in the Park, an evening of free al fresco ballet with the Central skyline as a stunning backdrop.
