Weilerstein is new AD of Lausanne Chamber Orchestra

Joshua Weilerstein has been named the new artistic director of the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, beginning in the 2015-16 season for an initial contract of four years.

The US-born conductor won first prize and the audience prize at the 2009 Malko Competition, and went on to a three-year appointment as assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic, which ended in the 2013-14 season.

The year ahead will see Weilerstein make his debut with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Deutsches Sinfonie-Orchester Berlin, Dallas Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, National Arts Center Orchestra, NHK Symphony, and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.

In his new role in Lausanne, the maestro will conduct a minimum of two subscription concerts, one recprding and an international tour per season. Weilerstein is keen on bringing new audiences to traditional classic repertoie, as well as performing new works by contemporary composers.
