Orchestre de la Suisse Romande brings virtual reality to classical music

The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (OSR) is redefining the classical concert experience with the launch of Virtual Hall®, a groundbreaking virtual reality (VR) application. Premiered at Art Genève 2025, this world-first innovation allows music lovers to step inside a symphony orchestra from anywhere in the world.

Developed by Swiss ArtTech company Cybel’Art, Virtual Hall® offers an immersive, 360-degree experience featuring OSR’s performances at Victoria Hall. Using six strategically placed cameras and studio-quality audio, the app enables users to explore multiple perspectives, from the conductor’s podium to the percussion section.

“This is the first time such a multi-camera system has been used in this way,” said Pierluigi Chr. Orunesu, Cybel’Art’s Founder. “It’s a major technical challenge, but one that transforms how audiences engage with classical music.”

Steve Roger, OSR’s Director, sees Virtual Hall® as a step toward making orchestral music more accessible. “This is more than just an innovation—it’s about democratising classical music and building new connections between the orchestra and the public.”

Launching on 10 March 2025, on the Meta Store and later on Apple and Pico Stores, Virtual Hall® will initially feature Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 “Eroica” and Rossini’s Overture to William Tell. Compatible with VR headsets, the app brings high-definition sound and visuals to music enthusiasts worldwide.
