The Stage Awards 2018 have been announced. In total, awards are given across 10 categories including Producer of the Year and the Sustainability Award.
Notable winners are Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr’s Bridge Theatre in London, which opened in 2017 and has been named Theatre Building of the Year. The 900-seat venue is the first major theatre to open in central London for more than 40 years.
Another new venue picked up a prize, with Manchester’s Hope Mille Theatre named Fringe Theatre of the Year. Opened in 2015, in 2017 two of its productions – Hair the Musical and Yank! – transferred to the West End.
Elsewhere London Theatre of the Year went to Almeida Theatre, while Sherman Theatre, Cardiff picked up the Regional award. Hull City of Culture won producer of the year for its outstanding programme.
