The Beach Boys bring California sun to Hong Kong

One of the biggest selling bands of all time are combining with one of Asia’s best orchestras for two nights of California sunshine and Hong Kong culture. The Beach Boys in concert with the Hong Kong Philharmonic takes place on 18 and 19 March at Queen Elizabeth Stadium next year, under the baton of Gerard Salonga.

‘The HK Phil is excited about the upcoming crossover concert with The Beach Boys, and having them in Hong Kong with our orchestra,’ said HK Phil chief executive Michael Macleod. ‘This concert will be a great opportunity to share their music with fans and new audiences alike.’

Known for hits like Good Vibrations, California Girls, God Only Knows and I Get Around, The Beach Boys are one of the biggest names in 60s pop music. The band remains active, with 2013 album Sounds of Summer released to critical acclaim.

‘The Beach Boys are one of the greatest bands of the last century, and their music is timeless…I hope the coming concert will allow younger generations to discover the music of The Beach Boys; and also bring orchestral music to fans of The Beach Boys,’ said Cathway Pacific Airways (CAP) chairman John Slosar. CAP are co-presenting the event at the 3,5000 seater stadium alongside HK Phil.

While several original members no longer play with the band – including the talismanic Brian Wilson – the lineup still includes recognisable names like singer Mike Love and bass player Bruce Johnston.
