Stewart Copeland is taking his famous film scores on tour. Stewart Copeland Lights Up the Orchestra will see the former Police drummer’s hits performed by the London Concert Orchestra, Manchester Concert Orchestra and Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg. Copeland himself will join in on drums.
The programme includes pieces from films Wall Street, Rumble Fish and The Rhythmatist, as well as TV show The Equalizer and computer game Spyro the Dragon. Troy Miller will act as conductor and co-arranger with Copeland.
“Lights Up The Orchestra show is a big orchestral piece, which is something I learned how to do through 20 years of film composing,” said Copeland. “Only now I get to do it on stage while banging on my drums.
“Playing Police tunes with an orchestra is all about bringing a richer texture to those rock songs,” he continued. “Audiences can expect to have their hair stand on end, to be hoarse from shouting…the main thing that is important is the energy, and my mission is to energise the orchestra, to get those guys rocking.”
Germany dates are Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg (20 March), Nikolai-Saal, Potsdam (22 March), Stahlwerk, Düsseldorf (23 March) and Liederhalle, Stuttgart (24 March). In the UK, Copeland will head to Symphony Hall, Birmingham (26 March), Bridgewater Hall, Manchester (29 March), and Royal Festival Hall, London (30 March).
