After a successful stint at West Australian Ballet (WAB) Steven Roth is taking over as executive director of Scottish Ballet. He will work alongside newly appointed artistic director Christopher Hampson from March 2016.
Scottish Ballet chaiman Norman Murray said he was ‘delighted’ with Roth’s appointment, and added that: ‘We set out to secure an executive director who possesses the right blend of commerciality and leadership to support Christopher Hampson and to compliment his visionary plans for the future.’
Roth has overseen a resurgence at WAB, with operating revenue tripling during his eight-year tenure. The company also moved into its new home WAB Centre after a successful fund raising campaign. IAM recently interviewed Roth about his work at WAB, in which he spoke about the logistical difficulties the company faces and the strong bond he has with the people of Perth.
‘He has the right combination of business acumen, leadership and management skills with many years of experience in the arts sector in Australia,’ said Hampson, when asked for his thoughts on Roth’s appointment.
Scottish Ballet’s festive production Cinderella is currently on stage, with Bethany Kingsley-Garner in the lead role. Roth’s first show with the company will be a new version of Swan Lake from acclaimed choreographer David Dawson.
‘Scottish Ballet has established an impressive reputation for its quality performances and adventurous programming and I am thrilled to have this opportunity,’ concluded Roth.
