Stephen Fry is the new president of ORA Singers

Stephen Fry – comedian, actor, writer, presenter and activist – has become the president of ORA Singers.

A major commissioner of contemporary choral music, ORA Singers are also known for their modern take on traditional pieces. The group is directed by Suzi Digby and has a goal of creating “100 new commissions by 100 contemporary composers within the next 10 years”.

Fry has supported ORA’s work since the group launched in 2016, and recently sponsored one of their commissions.

“The ORA Singers have blazed a trail in the live and recorded singing of choral music that is nothing short of inspiring,” said Fry. “The glory and directness of their sound makes me think of a musical version of the magical time when the national gallery started to clean up the old masters in their collection to reveal un-guessed at life, vivacity and colour beneath the dark varnish.”

ORA singers next perform on 22 November at St Johns Smith Square, London, then on 11 December at Temple Church, London. Both run from 19:30-21:30 and are the final two events for the group in 2018.
