Six new members for WFIMC

The World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) has added six competitions to its ranks. The new competitions were voted in during WFIMC’s 61st general assembly, which ran from 11-14 May in Montréal.

The six competitions are the International Edvard Grieg Competition (Bergen, Norway), Schoenfeld International String Competition (Harbin, China), Concours International de Piano – Istanbul Orchestra’Sion (Istanbul, Turkey), Longwood Gardens International Organ Competition (Kennett Square, USA), Primrose International Viola Competition (Los Angeles, USA) and Princess Astrid International Music Competition (Trondheim, Norway).

WFIMC also welcomed four associate organisations: Alink-Agerich Foundation (The Netherlands), Verbier Festival Academy (Switzerland), Young Classical Artists Trust (UK), and Young Concert Artists (USA).

In addition, Florian Riem (CEO of Tongyeong International Music Foundation & Isangyun Competition in Korea) was appointed to WFIMC’s board, while Richard Rodzinski picked up a lifetime achievement award for his work at both the International Tchaikovsky Competition and the Van Cliburn Competition.

The next WFIMC general assembly takes place in Glasgow from 5-8 April 2018 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
