The Singapore Government has announced a programme of tourism credits to help re-start its economy. In total SGD310m (€197m) will be made available.
The credits can be used at cultural events as well as in restaurants, shops and hotels. Named SingapoRediscovers Vouchers, they will be available to all of city-state’s residents.
It follows on from a programme launched in July that offered SGD45m in vouchers for cultural and entertainment spending.
“Many Singaporeans love to travel but are unable to do so now,” said deputy prime minister Heng Swee Keat. “Local consumption will not fully make up for tourist spending, but I hope Singaporeans will take the opportunity to explore our local culture and heritage, nature, art, and architecture.”
Singapore continues to be hit hard by COVID-19, with many workers currently supported by government wage subsidies. More information on the voucher programme can be found at gov.sg.
