Sex on stage

A new theatre festival in London is putting sex on stage. Hotbed: A Festival of Sex features 18 shows as well as talks, works in progress and a video games night that incorporates pop-up performances. The festival is hosted by Camden People’s Theatre (CPT) and runs from 25 April – 14 May.

The festival is headlined by OH YES OH NO, the new work from theatre maker Louise Orwin whose previous CPT shows include Pretty Ugly and A Girl & A Gun. OH YES OH NO explores real sex and real bodies in an attempt to create an open and honest sexual conversation.

The programme also features Clamour Theatre’s Bridle; Coming Clean: Life as a Naked Housecleaner by Ethan Mechare; Spill: A Verbatim Show About Sex from Propolis Theatre; and former CPT artistic director Chris Goode’s Ponyboy Curtis.

CPT stated that it wants the festival to ‘talk about sex as it’s really felt, experienced or imagined’ and deal with topics such as the ‘ubiquity of porn’ and the ‘secrets of your sexual fantasies.’

One of London’s most innovative theatres, CPT programmes shows and festivals that support young and emerging artists.
