The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) has purchased agency Opus 3 Artists. This is the first time a major agency has been bought by a conservatory.
Opus 3 will continue to operate independently, with David V. Foster continuing as president and CEO. There will be no immediate changes for its 250-plus roster, which includes artists such as Marin Alsop, Avi Avital, Kyung Wha Chung and Colin Currie. It also represents institutions such as Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company and Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
SFCM president David H. Stull said the acquisition would “provide new resources for collaboration and creative production” and create career opportunities for its students.
“This ambitious model will support a mutual amplification of mission and provide a platform for limitless artistic collaboration and project development,” said Stull. “By coming together, our two institutions will also create new pathways for diverse artists and leaders to enter the profession.”
Proposed initiatives include residencies for Opus 3 artists at SFCM’s new Bowes Center; an apprentice programme that will link SFCM students with Opus 3’s talent development team; and internships for SFCM arts management at Opus 3.
