Royal Opera House’s Christmas Cinema Festival

Royal Opera House (ROH) will present its first ever Cinema Festival in the run up to Christmas, with some screenings free for children 15 and under. The Cinema Festival takes place in the recently refurbished Linbury Theatre.

Kids go free for all Saturday and Sunday screenings, as well as to a live showing of The Nutcracker on 3 December.

“I’m very excited to open our first Cinema Festival, which features heritage and contemporary works from both The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera,” remarked Royal Ballet director Kevin O’Hare. “I look forward to welcoming the next generation of ballet and opera fans into the House to explore our world and to feel something new with each performance.

He added: “I hope the free children’s tickets will give those who have never tried opera and ballet before a lifelong enjoyment of these wonderful art forms.”

Other operas in the programme include Sylvia (7 December), La Fille mal gardée (8 December), La bohème (8 December), The Magic Flute (9 December), Gloriana (14 December), Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (15 December), La traviata (15 December), Cendrillon (16 December), Otello (21 December), Swan Lake (22 December) and Tosca (22 December).
