West Australian Ballet will return to the Quarry Amphitheatre near Perth in 2014 with the Australian premiere of Edward Clug’s Radio and Juliet.
The production explores the story of the star-crossed lovers from Juliet’s perspective as she navigates her way through a modern, masculine world. Clug wondered, ‘What if Juliet didn’t take her own life…’ and woke up next to Romeo remembering the events that led her to the tomb.
Set to the atmospheric music of indie stars Radiohead, the distinctive reimagining will take place against the striking quarry backdrop.
West Australian Ballet’s Ballet at the Quarry season also includes Itzik Galili’s The Sofa and Mona Lisa, as well as the world premiere of Lucas Jervies’ Epic Fail, which will treat dance as sport, questioning if competition has a place in performing arts.
The series runs from 7 February – 1 March.
