RCM curates Apple Music playlist

Royal College of Music (RCM) has signed up with Apple Music to curate a series of classical playlists for the online streaming service. The playlists will mix together important pieces from RCM’s 130-year history.

The first playlist, which has already been released, will introduce listeners to pieces by British composers who have ties to the institution including Gustav Holst’s The Planets and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.

‘At the RCM we embrace technology in enhancing our offer to students and visitors, using cutting-edge digital platforms across teaching and performance,’ commented RCM artistic director Stephen Johns. ‘As an Apple Music curator, we will be able to share wonderful recordings with a wide and diverse audience, showcasing some of our talented alumni and highlighting the RCM’s rich musical heritage.’

A further playlist titled ‘Through the Ages’ makes use of pieces from RCM’s extensive collection of manuscripts, and features Mozart’s Piano Concerto no 24 performed by Sir András Schiff.

According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject, RCM is the world’s third best performing arts school (after Julliard School and University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna).
