Choreographer Alexei Ratmansky will create a new production of The Sleeping Beauty for American Ballet Theatre.
Set to Tchaikovsky’s score, the production will premiere on 3 March 2015 at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California.
Ratmansky, who is artist in residence at ABT, said: ‘Tchaikovsky’s complex score and [Marius] Petipa’s choreography represent the highest achievement of Russian classical art. It symbolises the harmony and magic of classical dance for me.’
ABT raised funds of USD2.5m (€1.8m) for The Sleeping Beauty, and the amount was matched by a grant from company trustee David H Koch.
