Every four years Prague Quadrennial (PQ) showcases performance design, scenography and theatre architecture, and it has now announced its 2019 programme with the theme ‘The Golden Triga’.
Established in 1967, PQ aims to bring another side of theatre and performance to be experienced by the public and professionals. This year expositions from 79 countries, 800 artists and over 600 performances, workshops and lectures will take place.
The Golden Triga is a metaphor for the three stages of human life: youth, adulthood and the age of wisdom. From these three areas imagination, transformation and memory will be explored with each piece showcased.
The 14th edition of PQ will be held at Výstaviště Praha, Prague Exhibition Grounds, from 6-16 June. National student exhibitions will also present performances and lectures alongside PQ+, which offers a list of recommended events also happening across Prague. Both illustrator of The Monstrous Child and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Olivia Lomenech Gill, and Italian opera director and scenographer, Stefano Poda, will give lectures and workshops. Audio visual artist Romain Tardy will also attend to discuss technologies and the digital world.
During the 11-day event, PQ Talks aim to look at contemporary theatre and trends in scenography while Prague Quadrennial’s kids’ section wants to introduce children and young people to contemporary theatre, offering them a chance to look at theatre architects and scenographers from around the world.
