National Ballet of Canada (NBC) is expanding its Emerging Arts Critics (EAC) course, which helps young writers hone their talent. The Canadian Opera Company has signed up for 2018, joining existing partner Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Founded in 2014 as Emerging Dance Critics, EAC pairs aspiring critics up with mentors like music journalist John Coulbourn and Opera Canada editorial director Gianmarco Segato. They will be coached by Emma Doran (executive editor, The Dance Current), David Perlman (editor in chief, The WholeNote) and Sara Constant (social media editor, The WholeNote).
Further, young writers will attend productions from all three participating companies and see their reviews published in The Dance Current, The WholeNote and on Opera Canada’s website. Canadian Opera Company’s Eugene Onegin, NBC’s Anna Karenina and Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s Sibelius Symphony 2 are among the performances.
EAC is open to writers aged 19-29, with a deadline of 14 September. More information on the application process can be found online.
