Zurich Opera House (ZOH) has announced Gianandrea Noseda as its next music director, as well as two major contract extensions. Current music director Fabio Luisi will leave his post early, a mutually agreed decision that allows Gianandrea Noseda to take up the job for the 2021-22 season.
In addition, artistic director Andreas Homoki and ballet director Christian Spuck have both signed deal to keep them in Zurich until 2025.
Noseda has already taken the helm for two ZOH productions in 2017-18: Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel and Verdi’s Macbeth. He recently left his post as music director of the Teatro Regio Torino after a dispute with management.
Further, ZOH has announced a new Ring Cycle, the first major collaboration between Homoki in Noseda and the eighth cycle produced by the company. ZOH’s last full Ring Cycle was completed in 2002, a production directed by Robert Wilson.
Noseda is currently music director of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, principal guest conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra and principal guest conductor of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
