Nigel Kennedy booked for Academy of Ancient Music debut

Violinist Nigel Kennedy will make his Academy of Ancient Music (AAM) debut as part of the orchestra’s 2018-19 season. Programmed in partnership with the Barbican, it includes eight concerts and runs from 2 October, 2018 until 4 July, 2019.

Kennedy will perform a programme of Bach pieces on 14 December, alongside harpsichordist and AAM director Richard Egarr and violinist Thomas Gould. The selected works are Orchestral Suite No 2 in B minor, Violin Concerto No 2 in E major, Violin Partita No 1 in B minor, and Concerto for two violins in D minor.

Other highlights of AAM’s season are a semi-staged performance of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (2 October); a presentation of Handel’s Brockes-Passion (19 April, 2019); and a performance of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, conducted by Egarr (4 July, 2019).

AAM is also taking part in a separate festive series. It will collaborate with the BBC Singers on Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, with the work performed in two concerts across December, 2018 and January, 2019.
