PRS Foundation has launched a new programme that aims to create “a fairer, more equitable music industry.” Power Up will work with Black creators and industry professionals in the UK starting this spring.
The programme splits into two sections: Power Up Participant Programme (PUPP) and Power Up Movement (PUM). PUPP is a career development programme with grants, mentoring and marketing support. Each year PUPP will take on 20 Black music creators and 20 Black executives and industry professionals.
PUM, meanwhile, will work to create wider change within the sector, setting targets for Black representation. In alliance with the Black Music Coalition, it will be an advocate for Black talent and leaders.
Commented Power Up co-founder Ben Wynter: “Having been on the receiving end of unconscious bias and the structural and systemic anti-Black behaviour that occurs within our industry, I know first-hand just how important Power Up is.”
Power Up will announce an open call for applications in the coming weeks.
