Students from around the world now have the chance to study at Australian Ballet School (ABS) thanks to a new scholarship offer. Australian Ballet School Scholarship Awards are open to students aged 10-17 of any nationality.
Run in a competition format, selected students will perform at Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre from 10-12 June. Three winners will receive a one-year scholarship to train at the school in 2017. A further six students will be selected for a two-week training opportunity.
‘We are committed to creating an environment where students will be inspired and take that next big leap in their ballet dreams,’ commented director Lisa Pavane.
Students selected for the finals will take part in both masterclasses and performances. ABS hope the project will inspire young performers by bringing dancers from all over the world together in one place, allowing them to socialise as well as share skills. Successful former ABS students include Amber Scott, Ty King-Wall, Dimity Azoury, Brett Chynoweth and Benedicte Bemet.
‘It is very exciting that dancers from across the country will be able to come together to compete for opportunities to train at this prestigious school,’ said ABS artistic director David McAllister. ‘We are proud to be a part of this wonderful initiative.’
Also in the programme are performances of extracts from Stephen Baynes’ Swan Lake and Marius Petipa’s Raymonda, given by ABS principal artists and senior ABS students.
The closing date for applications is 2 May, with the application form available online.
