Dragon lands in Scotland

A spectacular new collaborative work between the National Theatre of Scotland, Vox Motus and Tianjin People’s Art Theatre opened at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow this week.

Oliver Emanuel’s Dragon brings together puppetry and illusion to tell the fantastical tale of a young Scottish boy who encounters a dragon in his hometown of Glasgow.

The production was conceived of by Emanuel together with directors Candice Edmunds and Jamie Harrison, the artistic directors of Vox Motus.

The team worked with puppet engineer Guy Bishop to make Harrison’s puppet designs a reality, and two physical artists from China’s Tianjin People’s Art Theatre, Zhang Kai and Tao Yan, will perform alongside the company in the production.

Dragon opened on 15 October at the Citizens Theatre, and tours to Inverness, Edinburgh and Salford until 9 November.
