An ambitious new project from Classical Opera and conductor Ian Page (pictured) will chart the life and work of Mozart.
Mozart 250 will see the London company dedicate part of each season to exploring the music that was being written and performed by Mozart and his contemporaries 250 years previously.
Founder and artistic director of Classical Opera Ian Page said: ‘I’ve always felt that programming – whether within a single concert or across a whole season – should have a strong sense of narrative and be able to take an audience on a real journey.’
The programme is set out chronologically to reflect Mozart’s own journey from his first works to his final concertos and symphonies. Starting in 2015, the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s visit to London, Classical Opera will perform ‘1765 – A Retrospective’ comprised of music written in London, The Hauge, Paris, Vienna, Eisenstadt and Naples by composers including Mozart, Gluck and Haydn.
Other events will run alongside the performances of Mozart’s work in February including a schools education project in conjunction with the Museum of London.
