Michael Tilson Thomas inducted into Hall of Fame

Michael Tilson Thomas is to be inducted into the California Hall of Fame. The news comes just weeks after Thomas announced he will step down as music director of San Francisco Symphony in 2020. He has spent 25 years with the orchestra.

He will be inducted alongside director Steven Spielberg and poet Gary Snyder, joining 104 famous Californians already recognised.

“These Californians represent the dynamic spirit and imagination that is the hallmark of the Golden State,” said California governor Edmund G Brown Jr. “Their exceptional skill and craft enrich our culture and inspire us all.”

California Hall of Fame inductees are selected by the governor and first lady for contributions to society across the arts, science, business, politics and sports. The ceremony takes place at the California Museum on 5 December.

“The inductees embody California’s innovative spirit, diversity and culture of possibility,” commented Caroline Beteta, president and CEO of Visit California. “These trailblazing pioneers bring the California dream to life and inspire people from all over the world.”

The ceremony will be streamed live via the California Museum website.
