Ludovic Morlot will step down as music director of Seattle Symphony in 2019 after eight seasons with the orchestra. However, the French conductor will continue to work closely with the group on future artistic projects.
Morlot cited a memorable concert at Carnegie Hall and three Grammy wins as highlights of his time in the Pacific Northwest, but said that: “by 2019 the time will be right for me to explore new musical opportunities and for the Symphony to have the inspiration of new artistic leadership.”
Before Morlot leaves he will lead the orchestra in a residency at the University of California, Berkeley, and will conduct Ravel’s opera L’enfant et les sortilèges in Benaroya Hall this June.

He has also been part of important community projects that reflect our Seattle values.”
A committee made of musicians, board members and staff will be appointed to select the next music director.
