Los Angeles Philharmonic has appointed Paolo Bortolameolli as assistant conductor for the 2017-18 season. The Chilean will guest conduct throughout LA Phil’s season as well as conduct the Toyota Symphonies for Youth Concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall on 24 February and 10 March, 2018.
Bortolameolli is a former Dudamel fellow and has won extensive praise for his work from commentators including composer George Crumb and the Chilean Critics Association. He is currently 2017 guest conductor in residence at YOA Orchestra of the Americas and was semi-finalist in the Mahler Competition 2016.
LA Phil also announced its 2017-18 Dudamel fellows: Tianyi Lu, Ruth Reinhardt and Jonathon Heyward. The programme gives promising young conductors from around the world the chance to develop their craft through mentoring and participation in LA Phil’s orchestral, education and community programmes.
“This programme continues the LA Phil’s commitment to supporting and training the next generation of exceptional conductors,” commented Dudamel. “I am very honoured to work with these young fellows from all over the world and provide them with support in the coming season.”
