Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival programme announced

Over 100 musicians from around the world will perform at one of Finland’s most prominent arts events.

Featuring 73 concerts, the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival 2014 will take place from 13-26 July, and is set to include traditional chamber music repertoire alongside visual art, dance and film.

The St Petersburg Chamber Choir will make its Kuhmo debut on 13 July, performing a reconstructed version of Bach’s lost St Mark Passion.

Each day of the festival will have a different theme, from the musical heritage of Paris, to music inspired by gastronomy, literature and dance.

A showing of the German silent horror film The Cabinet of Dr Caligari will form part of a day dedicated to the silver screen.

The festival will close with a performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion, sung by the Tapiola Choir accompanied by the Finnish Baroque Orchestra.
