Staatsoper mark 50 years since Domingo’s Berlin debut

Plácido Domingo has marked the 50th anniversary of his debut at the Staatsoper Berlin with a special concert led by Daniel Barenboim. Domingo was appointed as an honorary member of the Staatsoper, and received a long standing ovation.

The programme featured solos and duets from Verdi and Wagner, with Domingo appearing alongside soprano Marina Prudenskaya, mezzo-soprano Elsa Dreisig and bass René Pape.

A similar event was held in Vienna on 19 May, again to mark the 50th anniversary of the tenor’s debut. The Vienna State Opera gala concert included pieces from Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera, La Traviata and Simon Boccanegra.
