Composer Jeff Beal is releasing an album of music inspired by Netflix series House of Cards. Beal composed the soundtrack for the show, which ran for five seasons.

Works on the album include House of Cards Symphony; House of Cards Fantasy, Flute Concerto and Canticle For String Orchestra. All were recorded by the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, with Beal conducting.

Beal has won five Emmy awards for this television scores, which include Monk (2002), Rome (2005), Carnivale (2003), The Company (2007) and House of Cards (2013). Pollock (2000), Appaloosa (2008), Wilde Salome (2011) and Blackfish (2013) are among his film credits.

Further, the House of Cards album will feature composition Six Sixteen, which was written for classical guitarist Jason Vieaux. Originally commissioned by Chamber Music Lexington, the piece is performed here with a full orchestra for the first time.

Said Vieaux says: “Jeff is such an amazing musician, and I am honoured to be performing his guitar concerto – not just here on record, but in live performance as well.” His next live performance of the piece will be with the Heartland Festival Orchestra, in Peoria, Illinois, this October.

House of Cards will be released by BIS Records on 24 August. | |
