Festival offers free taxi rides – so long as you sing

Ruisrock festival is in Finland is introducing a world first: a taxi where the fare is paid for in musical notes. The Fortum Singalong Shuttle is free to use, so long as riders take part in karaoke during the journey.

The electric cars are provided by renewable energy specialists Fotum and will be in operation from 6-8 July during the rock music festival. The company is advertising it as “combin[ing] rideshares with Carpool Karaoke”.

“With Singalong Shuttle we want to show people in a joyful way how comfortable and easy it is to drive an electric car,” said brand manager Jussi Mälkiä. “The silent electric cars make it possible to enjoy singing without background noise and emissions.”

Each car comes with a tablet that allows passengers to select the songs they want to sing, with the lyrics displaced on the screen. The service will use BMW i3 electric cars.

The 49th edition of Ruisrock Festival features artists such as Pharrell Williams, The Chainsmokers, Dua Lipa and Alma.
