Dartington has revealed broadcaster Sara Mohr-Pietsch as the next director of its Summer School. Mohr-Pietsch will lead the programme, which runs for four weeks each summer, from 2020.
At present Mohr-Pietsch is a presenter and producer for BBC Radio 3, where she hosts BBC Proms events, Music Matters and its BBC Lunchtime Concerts series. She has also worked as an educator, curator and writer, and will publish a book on choral music next year.
Said Mohr-Pietsch: “The warmth and creativity I encountered during my own time at Dartington as a Summer School participant and volunteer had a powerful effect on me, and I am excited about creating transformative musical experiences for everyone, as well as deepening connections with the local community.
“Dartington is unique in the way it brings together amateur and young professional musicians with international artists in a place of outstanding beauty, rooted in the ethos of the Dartington Trust and the vision of Dorothy and Leonard Elmhirst, who believed in the power of music and the arts to change lives.”
Joanna MacGregor, who has led Dartington Summer School for the last four years, will step down after next year’s edition. Mohr-Pietsch takes up her post in January 2019, with her programme for 2020 announced in the spring.
