Joan and Sanford I. Weill have now given an incredible USD100m to Carnegie Hall, the New York Venue has announced. Their latest gift of USD14.6m will go towards its education initiatives.

Sanford I. Weill, who is the former chief executive and chairman of Citigroup, has been a member of Carnegie Hall Board of Trustees since 1983. He was named chair in in 1991 and became president of the board in 2015.

“I can’t remember a time when Carnegie Hall hasn’t been a central part of Joan and my life,” he commented. “We are so proud of everything that has been accomplished here over the years, especially in the area of music education, with kids having the chance to experience great music at the finest concert hall and develop their potential through music.”

The couple, who made the donation through the Weill Family Foundation, saw the Carnegie Hall Recital Hall renamed as the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Recital Hall in 1987.
