Classical Music Signings: Singers Jan 25

IMG Artists has welcomed mezzo-soprano and contralto Stephanie Wake-Edwards for general management. This season, the Berlin-based singer will perform the title role in Carmen with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, appear as Polina in Pique Dame with Garsington Opera and Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in concert as part of the BBC Proms. She will continue to be represented in North America by Fletcher Artist Management.

Bass-baritone Christian Van Horn has joined IMG Artists for North American management. This season, Van Horn makes his role debut as Philippe II in Verdi’s Don Carlos at the Opéra national de Paris, performs as Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen for San Francisco Opera and Royal Ballet and Opera, and debuts in the title role of Verdi’s Attila in concert at the Teatro Real. Additionally, he will appear as the title role in Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Askonas Holt has welcomed three new singers to its Fellowship programme: baritone Vladislav Chizhov, bass Li Huanhong, and tenor Ben Reisinger. They join existing Lies Askonas Singers Fellows Isabela Díaz, Dafydd Jones, Regina Koncz, Mark Kurmanbayev and Ian Rucker.

This season, Chizhov makes his debut in the title role of Eugene Onegin at the Bolshoi Theatre, where he is a company member. Li Huanhong returns to Teatro alla Scala for several roles, including his first performances as Angelotti in Tosca. Reisinger, currently in the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera, prepares understudy roles for Grounded and Fidelio.
