Call out for Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre (TIFT)

Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre (TIFT) has put out a call for artists to take part in its next edition in September 2016. Last year’s festival featured diverse acts like Akram Khan and Shakespeare’s Globe from the UK, Israel’s Incubator Theatre and Germany’s Sosani Dance Theatre.

‘The festival’s reputation has been built on the quality of its programme, with the selected works of major international directors and companies from all over the world,’ said TIFT in a statement. TIFT takes place in venues across the city and this year runs from 20 September – 10 October.

Akram Khan’s KAASH was a highlight last year, while other notable works included Gods Are Fallen And All Safety Gone by Greyscale, A Tempest from National Theatre of Craiova and Shakespeare’s Globe’s Hamlet.

Companies from any part of the world are welcome to apply, with any form of theatre accepted. In 2015 TIFT received over 500 applications, so competition for places is high.

As well as featuring international acts TIFT showcases Georgian theatre makers, with 21 taking part in 2015. In addition to performances the festival also has a programme of masterclasses, installations and exhibitions.

Applications are made through TIFT’s website, and companies must submit a DVD of its performance. Deadline for international applications is 1 April.
