2014 was Broadway’s highest grossing calendar year in history.
The theatre district’s total gross takings were $1.362bn, a 14 per cent increase on 2013, according to The Broadway League.
Meanwhile total attendance was 13.3m for last year, representing a 13 per cent increase.
Among the year’s most popular productions were The Elephant Man, It’s Only a Play, The Book of Mormon, Aladdin and The Lion King, which all broke records.
Also bringing the crowds to Broadway were Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Once and Pippin.
