Beethoven gets comicbook treatment

Deutsche Grammophon (DG) has teamed up with Z2 Comics to create a graphic novel about the life of Beethoven. The Final Symphony: A Beethoven Anthology will feature a number of artists and is set to hit the shops in November.

In a press release, the publishers said that The Final Symphony “reimagines the life of the legendary composer through striking new visuals”. Featured artists include David Mach, the man behind the Daredevil and Jessica Jones characters. The text comes from comic book author Brandon Montclare.

“It is of course, incredibly exciting to publish the work of some of today’s well-known artists, but to have this chance to tell comic book stories from and inspired by the life of one of the most legendary artists of all time is humbling,” said Z2 publisher Josh Frankel. “We have done our very best to honour this by putting together what we believe will be an essential read for music lovers of all ages.”

Added Kleopatra Sofroniou, vice president marketing at DG: “We are delighted to be encouraging the dialogue between the visual arts and classical music and hope that this exciting new project will open doors for comic book fans to discover the magic of Beethoven’s music.”
