Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG) has appointed Harrison Parrott’s Caroline Newton as executive producer. In her new role Newton is responsible for both company management and production and delivery of artistic output.
Newton was effusive in her praise of the organisation: ‘BCMG is a jewel of an organisation; it produces vital new art, working at the highest level, collaborating with the best musicians, and with the composer front and central in its mission. It is idealistic, unpretentious, challenging and thrilling.’
It won’t all be new faces for Newton: at Harrison Parrott she represented BCMG artist-in-association Oliver Knussen, as well as a regular BCMG collaborator in pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard.
2016 has already proved a busy year for BCMG, with new artistic director Stephan Meier announced back in March. Meier, who takes up the role in August, is currently artistic director at Hanover’s Das Neue Ensemble.
‘Caroline’s experience of working alongside some of our finest composers and musicians, and delight in new musical adventures make her a great choice to join Stephan in leading the talented BCMG team,’ commented BCMG Chair Christoph Trestler, who himself only joined in December 2015.
