The annual Battery Dance Festival (BDF) presents its 38th season presented by Battery Dance in association with Battery Park City Authority, 30 Companies from 10 Countries will take part in the festival, which runs from 11 – 17 August.
The festival, held at Robert F. Wagner Jr. Park in Battery Park City, annually presents original works by emerging and established companies from across the globe. Dance companies from Argentina, Austria, France, Sri Lanka and Netherlands are among some of the curated selection.
To kick off BDF there will be opening performances by Danuka Ariyawansa from Sri Lanka, Leah Barsky and Cristian Correa (Argentina); Dancers Seeking Refuge Fellow from Iraq will present their works alongside US artists Music from the Sole and Battery Dance. All shows running from 7pm-9pm will ask for audience participation for an interactive dance experience led by members of a different company each evening from that night’s programme. There will also be free workshops happening throughout the festival.
The festival is headed up by executive and artistic director and founder Robert Villanueva, whose Balasole Dance Company will take to the stage on closing night at Schimmel Center, Pace University.
