Avant Première Music + Media Market Berlin (18-22 February) is a mecca for industry hopefuls and specialists alike.
This year the Berlin event coincides with the Berlinale and the EFM European Film Market, allowing attendees to combine a comprehensive screening programme and celebrity appearances with an insightful conference that will include networking opportunities, industry insights, pitching opportunities and one-to-one sessions with major decision makers.
IAM previews five unmissable events
- Innovation Day (21 February): This ever-popular event explores the latest technologies being employed by the industry, showcasing state-of-the-art projects that often raise contentious issues affecting the industry. This year, speakers include Jay Scheib of MIT Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who will discuss his experience in utilising augmented reality at the Bayreuth Festival, and CEO of The Mindshift Matthias Röder, who teamed up with singer Robbie Williams and Deutsche Telekom to create an AI-enhanced version of the song, “Angels”.
- Avant Première Special Screenings: Adding a touch of glamour to the event, Avant Première will host special evening screenings of some of the most anticipated cultural film productions of the year in the presence of the artists involved. Highlights of this year include cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras and contemporary dancer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker in a visual exploration of Bach’s Cello Suites and acclaimed violinist Daniel Hope’s emotive journey through Ireland and Hollywood. Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter’s candid portrait to celebrate her 60th birthday will also be available to attendees, alongside “Gauthier Dance: The Seven Sins’’, an intense portrayal of envy, greed, gluttony, anger, lust, sloth and pride through dance.
- Avant Première Screenings: Enjoy an exclusive preview of over 550 of the latest music and dance films, including documentaries, artist portraits and live recordings, featuring over 60 companies from around the globe.
- IMZ x Sunny Side of the Doc Pitching Sessions: Filmmakers are invited to pitch their projects to international experts, including decision makers from the BBC, ARTE and the European Broadcasting Union. With both Digital Creation and Performing Arts Documentary pitching sessions available, audiences can expect novel approaches across the sessions.
- One-on-One Expert Sessions: Connect with industry experts, draw on their knowledge and discuss possible future collaborations in two themed speed-dating sessions, ‘‘Meet the Buyers’’ and ‘’Meet the Movers and Shakers of the Creative Industry’’. Decision makers from companies including the BBC, NHK, RAI, AMC International and Stage Access, Physical Cinema Festival, Advantage Austria and Creative Europe will be in attendance.
