Atlantic Music Expo returns to Cape Verde

Showcases, talks, and networking sessions will feature at this year’s Atlantic Music Expo, an event dubbed ‘the first music market crossing the Atlantic ocean’.

Taking place in Praia, Cape Verde from 8-10 April, the expo and conference will bring international promoters together with emerging artists from all over the world.

Organisers of this year’s event are hoping to build upon the success of the first edition in 2013, which attracted 500 delegates and performers from around 30 countries. The event was initiated by Cape Verde’s Ministry for Culture, and is produced by WOMEX and record label Harmonia.

The conference programme includes talks on music education, copyright and Creole identity, whilst workshops will focus on digital promotion and management.

Musical talent from across the Cape Verde islands will perform for the international delegation, including Ferro Gaita, Rui Cruz and Ceuzany. Other artists on the line-up include M.A.K.U Soundsystem (US / Colombia) and Maya Kamaty (Réunion Island).

More details on the line-up can be found here.

The Atlantic Music Expo is followed by the Kriol Jazz Festival, taking place in the Cape Verdean capital from 10-12 April.
