Music on Prescription with OSM

The Montreal Symphony Orchestra (OSM) has partnered with Médecins francophones du Canada to launch a groundbreaking initiative: Music on Prescription. The programme runs until 28 October 2026, and participating physicians in Montreal can prescribe an OSM concert to patients, offering free access to a live musical experience as a complementary tool for wellbeing.

Research shows that music can reduce stress, improve mood, enhance memory and promote relaxation. By combining these benefits with medical oversight, the programme aims to support mental and physical health, reduce social isolation and strengthen the therapeutic relationship between doctor and patient.

Physicians will have two prescriptions to distribute per consultation, allowing patients and a companion to attend an OSM concert. Participants will provide feedback on the experience, helping to assess its impact on wellbeing and explore the potential for broader implementation.
