Avant Première Music + Media Market Berlin returns this February for five days of screenings and presentations by the world’s premiere music media producers. 2017 also sees two new offerings, with a showcase of 8K ultra high definition equipment and a focus on virtual reality.
The 8K HD tech is by NHK Japan Broadcasting Corporation, an official partner of Avant Première. Its 8K system includes a 3D 22.2 multichannel sound system that promises to ‘transport participants into a new dimension of reality.’
Interactive virtual reality content comes from companies such as Arte France, Arri, Berliner Festspiele, Bellevue Virtual Media, Brunel University London, Fraunhofer Fokus, Google Play, Media Deals and Okio Studio. Avant Première hopes the virtual reality expo will promote, ‘professional collaborations between technology and the arts.’
During the trade show more than 500 film and television productions will be on offer from 70 companies, with work from ARTE, BBC, China International Communication Centre (CICC), C Major, EBU, EuroArts, NHK, NRK, Unitel, WNET and ZDF. Watching all of these will be 450 international industry experts, who will take part in network events such as face-to-face pitching sessions and talks like Spotlight on China delivered by CICC.
There are also two discussion panels: Collaboration, Creativity and Community in the Digital World, which features BBC Arts head of digital development John Kieser; and the EBU-IMZ International Coproduction Panel, that will analyse the challenges of international coproduction.
