Prix de Lausanne has named the 80 dancers taking part in next year’s competition. The 47th edition runs from 3-10 February, 2019.
Seventeen countries will be represented in Lausanne, with 44 girls and 36 boys competing. Japan and South Korea will send by far the most candidates with 13 and 14 dancers respectively.
In total, 71 candidates were picked by the jury based on video submissions, while a further six dancers were pre-selected. Pre-selections were based on performances at the Youth America Grand Prix, a South American Prix de Lausanne pre-section event in Goiânia, Brazil, and the Vaganova-Prix in Russia. Finally, three candidates were invited to take part.
“The diversity is extraordinary with 17 different nationalities from around the globe,” said artistic and executive director Kathryn Bradney. “Dance is my passion that I share with all of these students and I congratulate those that have been accepted and I’m also encouraging those that have not been accepted this year to continue working toward their future goals.”
Tickets for Prix de Lausanne 2019, which is hosted at the Beaulieu Theater in Lausanne, will go on sale from 18 December.
