Modigliani Quartet drink in Evian

Modigliani Quartet will take charge of Rencontres Musicales d’Evian [Evian Musical Encounters] for a third year in 2016, with the festival promising ‘a reminder of Evian’s golden era at the turn of the 19th to 20th century.’

Named for the rather swish hotel and resort in Évian-les-Bains, the chamber music festival celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The Evian Quartet will unite chamber superstars from Tokyo, Vermeer, Mendelssohn and Ysaÿe quartets, while Korea’s Sung-Wong Yang, Dami Kim and Dong Hyek Lim come together with violist Adrien LaMarca for a concert as part of the France-Korea year.

Evian ResortOther groups enjoying the French alpine air include Russian pianist Arcadi Volodos, violinist Renaud Capuçon, Pays de Savoie Orchestra, and of course Modigliani Quartet themselves. French music is central to the programme, with work from composers like Saint-Saëns and Boulez included.

The five-star Hôtel Royal is the central hub, with concerts also at Grange au Lac and Casino Theatre. The programme runs from 2-10 July.
