Vision String Quartet has been named as the fourth recipient of the Jürgen Ponto Prize. The Berlin-based ensemble receives a bursary of €60,000.
The biennial prize is awarded to young artists at the beginning of their careers. In addition to the prize money, the ensemble has also picked up a number of prestigious bookings, including dates at Beethovenfest Bonn and Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.
Founded in 2012, Vision String Quartet is made up of violinists Jakob Encke and Daniel Stoll, violist Sander Stuart and cellist Leonard Disselhorst. In 2016 the ensemble won both the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Competition in Berlin and the String Quartet Prize at Concours de Génève.
Past winners of the Jürgen Ponto Prize include the Aris Quartet (2016), Schumann Quartet (2014) and the Amaryllis Quartet (2012).
Vision String Quartet will release its debut CD in the summer of 2018.
