The show must not go on – Broadway shut until September

The Broadway League has announced that its theatres will remain closed until at least 6 September. The world’s most famous theatre district closed the  shutters on 12 March in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

“A date to resume performances is yet to be determined,” said the league in a statement. However, all its 41 venue members are now offering refunds or exchanges on tickets for performances up to 6 September.

“While all Broadway shows would love to resume performances as soon as possible, we need to ensure the health and well-being of everyone who comes to the theatre – behind the curtain and in front of it – before shows can return,” said Broadway League president Charlotte St. Martin. “

“Throughout this challenging time, we have been in close communication with governor Cuomo’s office and are grateful for his support and leadership as we work together to bring back this vital part of New York City’s economy – and spirit.”

Those with tickets for Broadway performances through 6 September will receive an e-mail from their point of purchase listing refund and exchange options.
