St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra to tour UK

St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra (SPPO), one of Russia’s most venerable ensembles, is touring the UK in January and February 2019.

The tour begins in Scotland with a performance at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on 27 January. Led by chief conductor and artistic director Yuri Temirkanov, the concert will also feature UK pianist Freddy Kempf performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concert No 2.

Next, SPPO heads to Royal Festival Hall in London (29 January), where they will be joined by Julia Fischer for Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No 1. After that comes Birmingham Symphony Hall (31 January) and a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No 4 with the acclaimed soprano Nadine Koutcher.

The tour then comes to an end on 2 February with a concert at Leeds Town Hall. There, Temirkanov and his orchestra will once again perform with Koutcher and Kempf.
