Sing for Pleasure offers diploma pathway for conductors

UK charity Sing for Pleasure (SfP) has announced a new pathway for obtaining a diploma in choral conducting will be offered at its summer school. The programme runs from 11-19 August at Keele University.

The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) will assess SfP’s Advanced Conducting Course (ACC), which can be then be used toward an LRSM (Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music) diploma in Choral Conducting. The summer school is equivalent to a level six qualification.

“We train nearly 300 conductors a year, almost all of whom start at foundation or intermediate I level,” commented SfP CEO Manvinder Rattan. “This development allows us to clearly benchmark the high quality and relevance of our training in today’s choral world.”

Added ABRSM chief examiner John Holmes: “SfP plays a vital role in the training of choral directors of the future, so we are pleased to be working in partnership with them to provide a tangible qualification to support and affirm the valuable learning and development that advanced conductors gain from this course.
